An American curriculum

Where children

Can thrive

We believe that learning is a lifelong process. That’s why we’ve created a unique American curriculum that combines our international education expertise with an ecological passion, so each student can learn to thrive in the 21st century.

Our curriculum is built around American standards, but it also incorporates a strong environmental focus—we want your child to leave Northview with a deep respect for the world around them and the skills they need to help improve it.

Our students can access various co-curricular activities, including sports, competitions, and field trips. We encourage them to think critically about their surroundings and question what they know by putting everything into context. This approach leads not only to success in school, but also in life.

Relationships

We aim to establish a strong foundation for learning within a safe and caring environment that promotes our children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

This allows children to reap the many benefits of learning through relationships and through, play and inquiry. Our children become internationally-minded global citizens, shaped by the positive learning experiences and connections on offer at Northview International School. It sets them on a path of lifelong learning whilst nurturing the capabilities they will need to thrive in the world of today and tomorrow.

Our high-quality flexible learning environments respond and evolve to children’s developing strengths, interests, and abilities, providing choice and challenge, and supporting differentiated and personalized instruction. They are areas that inspire reflection, deeper thinking, conversations, and inquiries to satisfy curiosity and answer the many questions that children have.

We constructed our learning landscape collaboratively, working with children, families and educators to create rich learning experiences through play.

Common Core Standards

Our personalized curriculum blends the American Common Core Standards with critical development and academic milestones for math and English, creating an exceptional and non-restrictive learning experience that sparks your child’s curiosity.

Our math program motivates curiosity, allowing students to use various skills and strategies to solve problems in a fun, engaging environment that applies math concepts to real-world situations.

Our reading program immerses your child in exciting texts and media, igniting a passion for literature. Studies show that children who enjoy reading are more inventive and influential as writers. Plus, exposure to various immersive fiction and non-fiction works enhances vocabulary and writing.

Fostering an Appreciation for

Arabic, Islamic Studies, and the History of Qatar

We take immense pride in nurturing Qatari values, traditions, and identity while fostering respect for diverse cultures and societies.

Arabic Language Studies

We’ve designed our curriculum around concepts that align with the Qatar National Curriculum and directives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE).

Our dedicated team of language teachers collaborates closely with English teachers to ensure a harmonized education journey for every student.

Islamic Studies

All Muslim students must study Islamic Studies as a compulsory subject. We employ a ‘skills-based’ approach in Islamic studies to nurture students into independent, responsible citizens. Arab Muslims receive Islamic studies instruction in Arabic, while non-Arab Muslims study English.

Qatar History

In Qatar History and Citizenship, the students study Qatar’s significant role in the Gulf region and the global stage, focusing on its economic and social growth and relationships with other countries and international organizations. We offer Qatar History to students from Grades 1 to 7.

Pieter Du Preeze

Grade 1 Classroom Teacher

My experience in teaching began 15 years ago in the UK, where I started as a teaching assistant supporting children and young adults with autism. It was a role that was incredibly rewarding, but ultimately, my goal was to be a class teacher. After qualifying, I worked in various schools in the UK before moving to Qatar in 2017, a move which is the best decision I have made. I have loved learning about the local culture here and teaching in an international environment, allowing me to interact with children and adults worldwide.

Joining the team at Northview has been the most exciting move in my career, as we have been able to design a curriculum and ethos that places the children’s holistic development at the heart of everything we do. We want to support our pupils to grow academically and, at the same time, grow into friendly, responsible people with the necessary skills to succeed.

I strongly believe in promoting a healthy lifestyle; therefore, in my spare time, I often compete in many of the organized 10k or 21k races around Qatar. The positive effects, both physically and mentally, are fantastic. I am also a keen cook and find preparing and cooking meals from scratch incredibly therapeutic.

I cannot wait to begin welcoming children and families through the door at Northview and seeing the difference we will make in our pupils’ lives.

Come to Northview and see for yourself how we are making a difference.

Sheldon Smith

Founding Principal

Welcome to our website. As the principal, I am excited to share my international experience spanning over 24 years in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Qatar. Previously, I worked for Al Khor International School (8 years) and Al Jazeera Academy (4 years) in Qatar. With this experience, I am confident that I can bring the kind of management and leadership to Northview International School that will make it known throughout the region as a school of choice.

I am committed to fostering an environment that not only encourages academic achievement but also promotes the overall development of our students, preparing them for a globalized world. I plan to build on the existing strengths of our school while introducing new initiatives to ensure we continue evolving as a leading educational institution. As a father of a teenage daughter, I understand parents’ anxieties and aspirations when it comes to choosing a school for their children. Ensuring a safe, nurturing, yet challenging environment that cultivates a love for learning is crucial.

I have had the unique position of seeing a school built from scratch and have worked with the construction team from ground zero. I have seen the eventual rising of the beautiful school building we have today and have been able to handpick excellent teachers who are dedicated to our student’s success.

I invite you to come to Northview International School and see how we are making a difference. Thank you for visiting our website, and we look forward to welcoming you to our community.
