School Curriculum

American Curriculum

At Northview International School, we are fully accredited to teach the American curriculum, which is globally recognized and provides access to colleges around the world. With a focus on developing well-rounded young people, the rigorous accredited curriculum promotes enquiry-based learning, critical thinking and acquiring skills — all vital to equip students with the toolkit they need to succeed in higher education, their future careers and in a rapidly-changing world.

With the challenges we are all facing across the whole planet, it is everyone’s responsibility to work towards a viable solution. Our children have an important role to play in the future of our planet. Northview places a special emphasis on the environment, and eco-literacy is becoming increasingly important. Our curriculum has been designed to provide this focus, and our teachers are excited to deliver what will be an exciting and future-focused experience.

Hands-on learning

Your child’s wellbeing is at the very heart of the Northview Kindergarten. This means we focus on every child to ensure they are safe and  healthy, active, responsible and respected, included and achieving. We open up a world of opportunities, introducing them to inquiry-led and real-life hands-on activities, across a variety of areas including math, English, Science, Humanities, Health & Physical Education as well as incredible extras such as woodwork and art atelier workshop.

We believe children must be able to learn through hands-on experiences, awakening all their senses. Children learn best when they have control of their learning, and when they feel safe, free and given ample opportunities to express themselves and foster good relationships with others.  A project-based approach is particularly effective and helps inform our curriculum.

An innovative curriculum

Our holistic and internationally accredited American curriculum is true to our values. From an early age, we educate and empower our youngest children to make positive decisions and become change makers for an environmentally sustainable and kinder world. Teaching our children about natural resources and ecosystems is a crucial way of protecting the future of our planet. Immersive learning ensures these habits become a fundamental part of their lifestyle as they grow.

We recognize that education is evolving. The beauty of our innovative curriculum is that it gives children the opportunity to approach their learning creatively, whilst placing a strong emphasis on the development of acquiring their own knowledge through their natural curiosity. Opportunities to practice many other skills including working collaboratively with others, engaging in complex problem-solving, and applying their knowledge to new situations.

Learning through relationships

We aim to establish a strong foundation for learning, within a safe and caring environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of our children. This allows children to reap the many benefits of learning through relationships and through play and inquiry. Our children become internationally-minded global citizens, shaped by the positive learning experiences and connections on offer at Northview International School. This sets them on a path of lifelong learning, whilst nurturing the capabilities they will need to thrive in the world of today and tomorrow.

An outstanding learning environment

Our high-quality flexible learning environments respond and evolve to children’s developing strengths, interests, and abilities, providing choice and challenge, and supports differentiated and personalized instruction. They are areas that inspire reflection, deeper thinking, conversations, and inquiries, to satisfy curiosity and answer the many questions that children have. We constructed our learning landscape collaboratively, working with children, families and educators, to create rich learning experiences through play.

Activities to inspire

The Scribble Club – discover the joy of scribbling. This inspires self-expression, invention, magic, and story.

The Drawing Club – an adventure into the magic of story, math, physical development, language, creativity, collaboration, and joy.

Helicopter Stories and Story Baskets – this uses the power of storytelling to develop creativity, communication and language, personal, social, and emotional skills. At Northview International School, we aim to deliver a child-centered curriculum that not only allows our children to grow academically, but also develop the important life skills to be successful in their future lives. With our team of motivated teachers, students are exposed to experiences and a curriculum that will educate, encourage and inspire them to be independent, inquisitive and responsible members of our community.

A holistic approach

Our bespoke Northview International School curriculum brings together the best of the American curriculum, blended with a values-led culture and a strong passion for environmental sustainability.

As an environmentally-aware school, our eco-centered curriculum focuses not only on our students’ academic and holistic development, but also allows them to have a positive impact on nature and the world around them. In order to enrich this, our curriculum actively develops children’s knowledge, skills and understanding across a range of subject areas, supporting our mission for our young people to develop a respect for their environment, as well as to those around them.

Through our holistic approach to teaching and learning, our children are supported to develop their social and emotional skills through key personal learning goals that enable them to be:

  • Adaptable
  • A Collaborator
  • A Communicator
  • Empathetic
  • Ethical
  • Resilient
  • Respectful
  • A Thinker

American Common Core Standards

Our bespoke curriculum uses the American Common Core Standards to inform key developmental and academic milestones for math and English within each grade. The benefit of developing our own curriculum and structure gives our children a unique, non-prescriptive learning experience that promotes curiosity.

By inspiring a curiosity for math, our students can develop a range of skills and strategies to solve problems in an engaging learning environment whilst being able to understand math in real-world contexts.

Your child will be introduced to a range of exciting and engrossing texts and media that will promote a love for reading and literature. It’s widely known that children who read for pleasure are more likely to be creative and effective writers. We strongly believe that exposure to a range of immersive fiction and non-fiction texts expose children to richer vocabulary and ways to structure their writing.

K-12 is how we refer to the international and American education system which spans from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. This means starting school around three through the age of 18. The system is broken down into three stages: Elementary School (Grades Pre-K–5), Middle School (Grades 6–8) and High School (Grades 9–12).

Starting in August 2022, our school is welcoming children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6. New classes will open successively to all year groups.
